DOES STUDYING ABROAD HAVE TO GO FAR? THAILAND IS FAR ENOUGH?

People either shook their heads, or doubted my strength was not enough to apply for scholarships in developed countries, someone thought I had a problem.

After graduating from the International Faculty of International Studies at a University in Vietnam, possessing many certificates of participation in domestic and international extracurricular programs, plus enough IELTS scores to attend a foreign Master's degree. Everyone thinks that I will continue my master's degree in the western sky full of dreams, but Thailand is the place I have chosen with many of my friends' words. Even my family was surprised by this decision.

No one understands himself by himself!

If it was me of many years ago, I certainly would never have thought of studying abroad in any country in Southeast Asia, except Singapore. Like the majority of other young people, I was also obsessed with the "American Dream", the skies of Europe, or Japan, Australia, Canada ... Absolutely no one was proud to boast: going to study in Thailand ”.

Once I studied in Thailand, I thought it was a lack of information.

I did not randomly choose the Master of Social Sciences program - International Asia-Pacific Studies Program (Master of Arts in Asia Pacific Studies - International Program at Thammasat University, Thailand) only because of the program Full scholarship for global candidates.

Everything starts from a lucky bond. In 2013, when I first attended an international student exchange program held at Thammasat School, I began studying Thai education.

Thai education system is very well invested. Compared to other countries in Southeast Asia, the share of public spending on education is Thailand's 3.8%, ranking third in 2013. In colleges and universities and higher, there are many private schools. international scale, at the same time many public universities also have international departments / associations, teaching many majors, in English, Thai, Chinese ... In fact, Thai universities Lan has many exchange programs, links with partner schools from the second year onwards in other countries such as England, Australia and the US, so when you study in Thailand, you will have the opportunity to " go studying abroad while studying abroad "at many top study destinations in the world or studying dual training programs, allowing for degrees from both schools.

Another advantage of studying abroad in Thailand is a reasonable cost, with much lower tuition rates than European countries or some other Asian countries. Besides, living and travel costs are also low. My Thai international students shared that the package cost for one year of studying in Thailand is not more than 9000USD. Moreover, when studying abroad in Thailand, students do not need to prove their finance.

In case you have a plan to develop your career in Southeast Asia's economic field, the advantage of Vietnamese native language, English and basic Thai language ability will give you the opportunity to join big economic groups. , or domestic businesses interested in developing business in Thailand, for example. The Thai government is very interested in Vietnamese students as well as other Asian countries, while increasing the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students, contributing to significantly meet the demand for recruiting staff. all three languages mentioned above. After graduation, students also easily have the opportunity to apply for a work visa in Thailand according to their specialization.

Thammasat: the school that teaches students to love

Founded in 1934, Thammasat University is the second oldest university in Thailand and is famous for its special slogan: "Thammasat where we learn to love the people". If Chulalongkorn is the "national pillar", Thammasat is "the country's democracy". The school has about 36,000 students, of which the number of bachelor students accounts for about 5,500 students (2014 data).

Each year, there are about 6,500 bachelors graduating from nearly 30 faculties, spread over 5 campuses across Thailand, including the main campus in Bangkok and the largest facility in Rangsit.

Initially, the school was named University of Ethics and Political Science, consisting of three majors: Political Science, Law and Economics. As a school with a free admission policy, Thammasat has 7,094 students enrolled in the first academic year. In this period, the school advocated "teaching students the love of democracy" (By the people and for the people) and had a lot to do with the politics of the country. If there is a Walk of Fame in Hollywood, then Thammasat High School has a similar history of stone carving that marks all the important events of the school and the Thai country. I am quite interested in this creation and thanks to that I can significantly remember some historical events. Many Thai leaders have attended school.

One more thing that I love about this school is the lively student life like in TV dramas that often follow before studying abroad. Every week there are events taking place from sports, arts, to practice football cheerleading team with string backdrop, huge investment standee like posters advertising Kpop music group. You are also active because the school has so many good conditions for students to fulfill their passion. I know, Thammasat (Rangsit facility) was honored to host the 1998 Asian Games. So how big is the school and it took me a while to study the bus route to the locations in the school. , sometimes I would often ride Ofo to walk around the school to relieve stress after hard work.

How did I prove my choice?

My study trip was initially not as exciting as many of my peers, even more or less overwhelming public opinion. But I did not prove anything, because the fact proved my decision.

Thammasat is a top 3 Thai school and the top school in Political Science training in Asia (ranked by Word University Ranking 2017). My Master's scholarship is relatively high (more than 500,000B for a 16-month course). The program is entirely in English under the guidance of graduate professors from top schools such as Oxford , Harvard , Manchester ,Cambridge , ANU , and Tokyo with a wide variety of subjects in 4 main areas: Economics , Law, Politics and International Relations.

Although I have spent more than a year studying here, I can hardly follow the names of the lecturers correctly, because besides the faculty members of the school, we can also study with experts. Internationals come from ministries, countries, WTO, APEC, UNESCAP and some visiting lecturers from other universities such as Chulalongkorn, Kyoto, ANU.

It is also due to the diversity and newness from the knowledge, as well as the rich learning locations, there are the main lessons are attending international conferences, talks at UNESCAP and other organizations, have done for learning to be more lively and engaging than ever. For me, going to school is also going out, exchanging and exploring. That's not to mention the class students, probably only me as a true student, because most of my international friends are my brothers and sisters, and my uncle, experienced staff comes from Ministries, NGOs, Universities. Thanks to that, the real lessons are not the reception of pure information from the teachers, but I always have the feeling that I am attending high-level sessions. Learning from teachers is not enough, I also learned a lot from my classmates.

Through the personal experiences I shared on Facebook, many young people contacted and shared that they wanted to study in the same environment as me. Increasingly, I feel very proud and much more confident with my choice. I remember my thesis instructor saying: "The evidence will not prove everything wrong. And there is no more real evidence than the nature of truth. ”
