Do you want to study in the United States but don't know how?

Despite the high tuition fees, there are hundreds of scholarships to study for free in the United States, in all universities, which ease the costs for many students and even some (as in my case) cover all the expenses thanks to the sports and academic scholarships that I obtained.

That is why in this guide I am going to tell you about the three main types of scholarships to study in the USA that exist, and I will also explain the requirements to study in the United States that you need to meet and how to get them.

There are 3 types of scholarships to study in the United States in college:
  1. Athletic Scholarships. Scholarships awarded to students with a high athletic level.
  2. Academic Scholarships. Scholarships awarded to students with a high academic level.
  3. International Scholarships. Scholarships awarded to international students from different countries.
1. Athletic Scholarships

These college scholarships in the United States are awarded to student athletes who are part of the university's varsity team.

These scholarships are different for each individual case and cover a percentage of the university expenses, being able to be complete in some cases.

These USA scholarships are given by the coaches of each university team and they decide the percentage that they give to each player and can be complete, valuing the characteristics of each athlete.

In addition, depending on the university league and the sport, there are a series of restrictions to which the coaches have to adapt and there is a maximum number of athletic scholarships that can be given per team.

2. Academic Scholarships

As you will see in the guide, athletic scholarships are highly dependent on the organizations and divisions in which the university is located.

With academic scholarships, however, this does not matter because these scholarships are offered at all universities, regardless of the organization, division or size of the university.

These scholarships to study in the USA can range from $10,000 to $30,000.

Academic scholarships are an award to those students who excel in academics in high school.

However, to obtain these scholarships you must meet a series of requirements that include:

Completing Bachelor's Degree (or being in the process to complete it). With a GPA =+3.5 (in your last three years of high school). In Spain, Bachillerato refers to the last two years of high school, not college.

SAT and TOEFL exams. Minimum SAT score = +1300. Minimum TOEFL score = +80.

Take the GMAT and GRE exams (only in case of masters in the United States).

Volunteer activities. Such as volunteering in an NGO or performing community service activities.

Perform other extracurricular activities. Such as playing an instrument, math championships, chess or any other intellectual ability you have.

3. International Scholarships

As with academic scholarships, for this type of scholarship in the United States it does not matter what organization the university is in.

Many U.S. universities seek to internationalize their campuses, so through these scholarships they attract many foreign students, which gives them greater prestige.

These scholarships to study in the USA can cover up to 50% of the total and for this you will need to fulfill some minimum requirements.

Finish high school (or be in the process of finishing it). In Spain, Bachillerato refers to the last two years of high school, not college.

SAT and TOEFL exams.

Minimum SAT score = +950.

Minimum TOEFL score = 60.

4. Sports Scholarship+Academic Scholarship+International Scholarship

I have already told you about the three types of college scholarships in the United States: athletic scholarships, academic scholarships and international scholarships.

You may have learned that to get them you will have to be either a good athlete, a good student, or simply a foreign student.

But what if I told you that you can combine all 3 scholarships and that way get a full scholarship easier?

In the case that you are more or less good at a sport, you have good grades in high school, SAT and Toefl, and you are a foreigner, you have the possibility of combining the three university scholarships in the USA, so that for example you are awarded:

A 60% athletic scholarship.

A 30% academic scholarship.

A 10% international scholarship.

In this way you could get your full scholarship to study in the USA thanks to your skills in various disciplines.

In many cases due to the high competition for athletic scholarships, many athletes choose to put a lot of effort in getting good grades in the SAT and TOEFL exams, so that even if they do not get full athletic scholarships, they can still choose to finance their studies 100% by combining their athletic scholarship with academic or international scholarships.
